HET EINDE VAN DE WERELD (VERDENS UNDERGANG)

Singer and presenter Marcel Vanthilt is fulfilling the role of curator for this summer’s MoMeNTfestival’23, an annual organisation of MoMeNT, the arts organisation of the city of Tongeren. Van Tilt chose ‘The End of Time’ as the theme for the annual arts festival. In the impressive programme, the curator also makes room for a co-creation with HERMESensemble.

In ‘The End of the World’, Marcel Vanthilt and the HERMESensemble go on a musical exploration as they provide August Blom’s very first end-of-the-world film ‘Verdens Undergang’ (1916) with a unique live soundtrack. Using piano, bass clarinet, bassoon, percussion and synths, they will create musical worlds that cross the boundaries between genres.

Guitarist Thomas Vanelslander will provide the necessary dose of psychedelia and rock attitude to complete the experience. The Tonger choir Cantemus adds its powerful vocal sounds to this adventurous musical path. The music, inspired by iconic works by Wagner, Muse, Messiaen, Smashing Pumpkins, Fairport Convention and Nine Inch Nails, among others, will be partly performed and partly improvised live.
