A spiritual journey to the limbus: the distance and time between two lights.

Inspired by the Buddhist Hart Sutra and the Bardo Thödol (better known in the West as The Tibetan Book of the Dead), Huang Ruo’s new composition takes us on the journey of the limbus: the distance and time between two lights, two lives. This experience is described in both books as lonely and empty. A sensation that appears not only in the transitional phase after death, but also during our lives.

Vocalists from the Netherlands Chamber Choir and soloists from HERMESensemble accompany us on the spiritual path between those two worlds, directed by Aïda Gabriëls and Tido Visser.

Within the framework of All Arias Musical Theatre Biennale 2023.
