Sounding Lines / Traces

An intimate chamber music programme featuring works by Toshio Hosokawa and Wim Henderickx, performed on flute, cello and percussion.

From stillness and breath to pulse and ritual, this programme brings together two composers who each explore the physical and spatial qualities of sound in their own distinctive way. Hosokawa’s music often emerges from silence and resonance, with a keen sensitivity to timbre, space and the subtle movement of sound. In Henderickx’s work, sound takes on a more visceral energy, with rhythm, movement and percussion playing a central role.

Through a sequence of solo and duo works, the programme unfolds as a musical journey that constantly shifts perspective. Intimate, almost suspended moments give way to more layered and rhythmically charged sound worlds. The changing instrumental combinations place the instruments in ever-new relationships, revealing unexpected connections between the two composers.

Nature, movement and memory are present not so much as explicit themes, but as tangible qualities within the music — turning sound itself into a physical experience.
